I made a simple paté for dinner tonight:
- 1 medium avocado
- about 5 cherry tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon kelp powder
- 1 tablespoon flax oil
- squeeze of lemon juice
Now I know most of my recipes start “place in blender”, well this time it’s different, I just used a fork to mash all the ingredients together, after first chopping up the tomatoes. And that’s it, I had it with spinach, rocket and watercress, delicious and simple.

This sounds wonderful, Rob. I’m going to make it for lunch today. I haven’t got any kelp powder so will be using mixed flaked sea veg. Love the simplicity.
I just bought some kelp powder (www.greenbayharvest.co.uk) and it says on the label ‘do not exceed one teaspoon per week’, due to the iodine content. Obviously there is more than that in this recipe – is there any danger associated with ingesting large amounts of kelp powder?
Hi Janis
I think that is being a bit too cautious, although if you search the internet you will find varying views. There are also different types of kelp which could complicate matters.
I found this site, which suggests that for medicinal use to use 10-15g 3 times a day… http://www.florahealth.com/flora/home/Canada/HealthInformation/Encyclopedias/Kelp.htm
